PERSONALITY QUESTIONS
What skills does your character bring to the situation? Desmond is a trained assassin who has inherited the knowledge and skills of his previous ancestors. His skills are in stealth, subterfuge, pickpocketing, and parkour. He is able to fight multiple opponents at once easily and he's skilled in several weapons including guns, knives, batons, and swords. He is very aware of danger around of him and has excellent agility and defensive instincts. He has the survivalist knowledge of his ancestors so he knows how to hunt and make shelter and survive, but it's more like knowledge you read in a book then something he just understands. He can climb entire trees easily and he's spry.
Outside of physical skills, he does not bring much to the situation, except sass (not helpful), temper (really not helpful), and he was a good bartender. Maybe some day he can have the ingredients to create a sea breeze or a sex on the beach. He has hacking skills and comfort with computers and technology, but that isn't helpful in Edwardian era.
Why did you choose this specific character for 6I, and how do you picture them fitting into the game? I was very excited to see all the Assassin's Creed characters. Desmond got a very bad deal in his life. He was used for his genetic material by several different organizations, his own people included, and he was forced into saving the world by also kind of destroying it and dying in the process. Also forced to kill the closest person to him, Lucy, who he found out was betraying him when she was the first person in forever he trusted. Which still complicated his feelings because he still didn't want her dead and cared a great deal for her. It was her or the world, and he chose the world, but he has regrets and second thoughts.
So he's had a rough time but never had any chance to think through these losses and find closure for himself. He's always been pulled in many directions and not had any of his own choices, so this will give him that chance to do things on his own. It'll also be great to see him interact with his ancestors who he lived the lives of. I think outside of the AC cast, he'll have an interesting time fitting into the game. He's had a very stunted social experience so it'll be good to push him into doing more community based things and learning how to make real friends. Friends that aren't trying to manipulate you or only are nearby for the end of the world. He has no one he would sit and get a beer with. It would be nice to see that change.
How do you imagine your character will survive in 6I, and in what ways will they contribute to the settlement, if any? Demond can survive on his own, and he's had to for a long time. Survival isn't the problem. What's going to take him a little longer is how to adjust to being part of a community, and one that is not trying to use him. He's very jaded and suspicious of others after being a tool to his own family and their enemies. He was skeptical at a young age and that's how he left the assassins in the first place. He also has a temper, but he has good reason to be angry at the world.
He is strong and young, so he can physically assist others and will try, but deciding to contribute by choice and not manipulation will be a big thing for him. His short life was all about him being a pawn. At his core though Desmond has a truly good heart, and he has strong loyalties to others. He can also be very forgiving, as he proved by still grieving and caring for Lucy despite her betrayal. He wants to belong somewhere and have people care about him, but it's hard for him to trust anyone. He might have a better chance with Altair and Connor, who he already knows well and trusts somewhat. He may even be a little shy with them at first, masquerading as coldness, but warm up given some time.
He also can make the tough decisions. Killing Lucy obviously broke him in many ways (he literally went into a coma like a drama queen), but it was a decision he felt he had to make because her plan was going to cause death and devastation. He now thinks that he could have done it a different way, but he was willing to put the world's survival above everyone, including her life and his own. He chose to die. He made the largest sacrifice a person can. He is hugely bitter at the moment. He doesn't think anything matters, because Juno won regardless, and the two sides didn't contribute at all to that last choice. They fought all those years for power, and he was the one who actually saw the big picture: the side didn't matter, just the end result. He's going through a Thing. It'll be interesting to see if other people can bring him back into the world and him trying to not be such a prick about it.
How will your character react to...Being separated, possibly permanently, from loved ones and their previous life, including loss of powers, if applicable? He's about to die so he has no real connection to his life there to care about. He didn't have super powers outside of the Eagle Vision, which he never wanted in the first place. This is the best he's going to get, and he's fine with that. He's been a loner before. He would argue he doesn't have anyone he loves back home anyway (sorry, mom).
Their environment being manipulated, possibly in strange or extraordinary ways, and possibly in ways which restrain them? He's actually very used to his environment being odd and warped. He spent so much time in the lives of his ancestor and hooked up to machines and experiencing the Bleeding Effect. This means that he is often in a weird environment that he didn't expect and forced to cope with. It'll be difficult in the sense that he panics if he's not sure whether what's happening around him is real or not. So that will take time to adjust to. He will hate being physically restrained and fight it if he can.
Being physically and/or mentally manipulated, such as having hallucinations or suddenly possessing special abilities they did not have before? He is going to hate it. So much. This is the biggest trigger he's ever had. It's not unusual to him though. He was forced by a godlike being to kill someone he cared about, and then manipulated by them to die. It's more of the same. He'll struggle and despise it, but he'll also accept it and do his best because he's always been a puppet so why not more? He's cynical and not likely to think he can actually change anything. But expect a lot of fury and swearing.
POWERS & SPECIAL ABILITIES
Desmond's only real supernatural abilities are Eagle Vision in which he can sense enemies and items around him through a sort of extra sixth sense, and he also is able to hold the Apples of Eden. The latter only matters if one of them is there, and with it he can use the energy in them to destroy everything. The apples have destroyed entire cities with heavy earthquakes.
